Osmosis Lab Report Hypothesis: Osmosis will occur when there is an uneven distribution of solute in a solvent. The higher the solute in solvent, then there will be a higher rate of osmosis through the diffusion gradient forming a hypertonic or hypotonic solution. Solvent with equal or no solute forms an isotonic solution. Materials: Distilled water, sucrose, dialysis tubing, string, 250 ml beaker. Procedure: To demonstrate and isotonic solution we needed 3 inches of dialysis tubing. We tied off one end of the dialysis tubing to create a bag, filled it with distilled water, and tie of other end to close. The bag is carefully blotted to remove any water spilled during the filling and then weighed and recorded for an initial mass. Then we filled a 250 ml beaker with only distilled water. Immerse the bag in the beaker of distilled water and let stand for 30 minutes. After 30 minutes we removed the bag from beaker and carefully blot excess water to determi...

Osmosis Lab Report

Natasha Tenen Lab: Thursday (3-6 pm) OSMOSIS LAB REPORT INTRODUCTION Osmosis is a special type of diffusion where water molecules move down a concentration gradient across a cell membrane. The solute (dissolved substance) concentration affects the rate of osmosis causing it either to speed the process up or slow it down. Based on this, how does different concentrations of sucrose affect the rate of osmosis? If sucrose concentration increases in the selectivity-permeable baggies, then the rate of osmosis will increase. MATERIALS AND METH...

SBI 3UO Ms. C. Evans Biology Lab Report Title: To determine the effect of surface area on the rate of osmosis. Abstract: The main aim of the experiment was to determine the effect on the rate of osmosis by the changing surface area. The changes were observed in the masses and surface area of the chopped potatoes which were initially of different surface area but same mass. The rate of osmosis increased with increase in surface area. And this increase in the rate of osmosis was directly proportional to th...
