Describe a festival in Viet Nam (Miêu tả về 1 lễ hội ở Việt Nam) (Tết) Around the year, there are many festivals and celebrations such as Christmas, Teacher’s day, King Hung anniversary,.but Tet is the most important for Vietnamese people. Tet is a festival which occurs in late January or early February, on the first day of the first lunar month of the year. This is an opportunity for families to clean and decorate their houses and enjoy some special food such as round sticky rice cake, square rice cake, spring rolls,… All of the houses and streets are decorated beautifully with colored lights and red banners. All shops, stores and buildings are crowed of people shopping for Tet. At home, people clean their house and put balloons as well as lucky envelopes on the peach. Children are bought new clothes by their parents. All of the preparation must be finished before 12 pm on New Year’s Eve, when square rice cake and the “Five – fruit tray” are put on the altar. At night 30th, the whole family member always have a reunion dinner and look forward to the New Year’s Eve – the passage from the old to a new year, which is considered the most sacred point of time. Around this time, everyone wish “Happy New Year” and “Best wishes for you” together. They also make offerings in the open air to pray for a good new year. After the New Year’s Eve is the start of a new year with many customs and practices, amusements and entertainments. Vietnamese consider the person who first goes to their house is the one who brings luck or unlucky things to them. During the day 1st, 2nd, 3rd, people visit their relatives and go to church to pray for a happy year.
