Abstract — developing a web application is not as straight forward as it seems to be. It is seen that development of web based system is lacking a systematic approach. Stakeholders most of the time are not satisfied with the progress of system. As web dependency has increased rapidly in a very few time, its reliability and performance has now become a big challenge for web developers. To cope with this all, there is a need to follow a universally used systematic approach based on effective scientific, engineering and management principles. This all is provided by web engineering discipline. In this paper it gives us the detailed description of those principles for developing large scale integrated web applications successfully. It also gives the view of current ongoing study and shows the potential of further study in different areas of web engineering.
INTRODUCTION
THE WEB HAS BECOME ONE OF THE MOST TRANSFORMING COMPUTER-BASED TECHNOLOGIES EVER INVENTED. THE LAST FEW YEARS HAVE SEEN MANY DEVELOPMENTS IN COMPUTER SCIENCE AND IT TECHNOLOGIES ARE MOVING TOWARDS THE WEB. THE WEB IS INCREASINGLY PERCEIVED AS “THE PLATFORM” FOR FUTURE DEVELOPMENTS IN MANY AREAS. DIFFERENT ASPECTS OF WEB SUCH AS SECURITY, PERFORMANCE, REUSABILITY, STRENGTH, PORTABILITY, USABILITY, AND ACCESSIBILITY HAVE GAINED MUCH IMPORTANCE OVER THE TIME. BUT ALL OF THESE ASPECTS ARE MAINLY QUESTIONS ABOUT HOW TO ENGINEER WEB-ORIENTED APPLICATIONS. IN THIS PAPER IT SUGGESTS TO PAY MORE ATTENTION TO AN AREA WHICH HAS RECEIVED MUCH LESS INTEREST IN RESEARCH, NAMELY HOW TO ENGINEER THE WEB. MANY OF THE DEVELOPMENTS THAT SHAPED THE TRIADIC WORLD VIEW OF THE WEB DESCRIBED ABOVE WERE NOT SO MUCH PLANNED AND ENGINEERED, BUT THEY WERE SOMEHOW INTRODUCED AND THEN DEVELOPED EVOLUTIONARY.
