In his excerpt entitled “1491” Charles C. Mann refutes the misconception that Native American society peacefully existed among the settling European colonies rather than the historical events which show the manslaughter of the indigenous race by Europeans to gain control of the Native American territories, the depopulation of the indigenous natives due to the countless diseases contracted by the Europeans, and the contrasting cultures between ethnic groups and the arriving Europeans to the New World. In 1633, the Narragansett Indian tribe lost a third to half of their tribe due to a smallpox epidemic. The history of Native Americans show a decreased number in populations after the Europeans arrived on U.S. soil. In the excerpt 1491, Charles C.
