Large-scale Mexican migration in the U.S. began in the early 20th century . Migration is difficult, expensive, and dangerous for those who enter the U.S. illegally across the Mexican border . Mexicans migrated to the United States because of labor demands and political unrest . Mexicans have been the largest immigrant group migrating into the U.S . As of 2013, 11.6 million Mexican immigrants moved to the US . A lot of Mexicans migrate to Southwest of the U.S. For a couple reasons, because Mexico borders those states like Texas ( a hugely populated Mexican state ), Arizona, and especially, New Mexico which you can tell that by the name, it was greatly influenced by Mexican migrants . The emigration of Mexico is varied through the country . This is due to the fact that the economic situation applies mostly to poorer people, who seek better job and economic opportunities in other countries . More than 11 percent of Mexico’s native population lives outside of Mexico, making it the country with the most emigrants in the world . About 98 percent of all Mexican emigrants live in the United States, which are more than 12 million migrants, ( legal and illegal ) . The amount of Mexican emigrants of indigenous origin in the US. ranges between 50 percent and 90 percent of the emigrant population . There are no certified numbers on the amount of indigenous Mexican migrants because they are all scattered around and US. censuses does not cover these races and ethnicities . Reports by the Pew Research Center shows that the current migratory stats from Mexico to the US is below a net 0, as more Mexicans leave the US .
