One of the things that would make it easier for you to understand is what happened in 1910. In the year 1910 the Treaty of Portsmouth was signed ending the Russo’ Japanese war. One of the results of the signing of the treaty was that Japan was granted rule of Korea. Japan ruled Korea for 35 years, under their rule the production of rice increased greatly, which may sound like a good thing except for the fact that most of the rice that was grown was used to feed the Japanese.
