1. What exactly went wrong? How bad was this situation?
In January on 1999 there was a severe snowstorm in the Detroit area. Northwest Airlines had several flights already departed for the Detroit airport and made the decision to disregard the heavy snowfall and let the flights continue to their Detroit destination as planned.
