Baptism by immersion in water by one having authority is the first saving ordinance of the gospel and is necessary for an individual to become a member of the church he or she may attend and to receive eternal salvation. All who seek eternal life must follow the example of the Savior by being baptized to receive the gift of the Holy Ghost. Those who are baptized enter into a covenant with God to take upon themselves the name of Jesus Christ, keep His commandments, and serve Him to the end. However, in my case, that is not true. It was not my decision to get baptized when I did.
